Capri and its waters

Posted by jaronliu on April 23, 2009

About 80 euros round trip to go there from Naples but every cent is worth it. The waters and the scenery are just so beautiful. Weather was good, waters are blue, and sun is shining. We did all the touristy thing except going to the blue grotter because the sea was too rough.

The port itself is nice liao

Sorrento and its Limoncello

Posted by jaronliu on April 21, 2009

Sorrento is only a short ride from Pompeii and so we thought it might be interesting to check out this small town and the surrounding Sorrentine Peninsula. Pretty nice small little town that makes lots of Limoncello, a kind of lemon liqueur. The lemons that they used is actually very very big, in fact the biggest lemon I have ever seen! We bought a bottle but dunnoe why it doesnt taste as good as the one we tried in the shop. The coast area is also very nice with very clear and blue waters.

Unfortunately we did not have enough time to explore further and check out the Amalfi Coast, which is supposedly very famous and beautiful. Not sure if we have the chance next time, not sure if we have money or not, not sure if we wanna go south again or not…

Lost city of Pompeii

Posted by jaronliu on April 19, 2009

Thanks to Vesuvius, the Roman city Pompeii was completely destroyed in AD79. The good thing is that the city and many of its good stuff was buried deep in the earth and today after excavation we are able to see the entire city! Compared to the Roman forum in Rome, Pompeii is far more spectacular, you could actually see the structure/architecture, the shops, the houses, the baths, and the villas of the entire area. Everything seemed to be intact! Pretty cool actually.

Trenitalia high speed train a disappointment

Posted by jaronliu on April 18, 2009

This year or so Trenitalia build tracks for their high speed train and so I thought might be a good idea to travel from Milan to Naples @ 5hrs travel time.

Unfortunately, I was wrong. The trains are the same as the normal Eurostar trains, not new and nothing special. The worst part is that there are people smoking within the train cabin and the train conductor cannot do a shit about it. No local police, no control, no restrictions, nothing at all. He tried to move them away but they refused and so he did nothing – it seems that the whole train there is only 1 train conductor. Seriously don’t understand why they spend so much money investing in tracks and trains but no enforcement inside the train.

Will talk about our exciting trip to Naples soon…

100 euros wasted going up Jungfrau

Posted by jaronliu on April 4, 2009

So we went to Interlaken (somehow I keep pronoucing Interleukin, geesed…) in Spring (officially) but the weather there is still winter big time. Quite unlucky cos it was like sunny the whole week but turned rainy/snowy on the weekend we were there.

Anyway, we still went up to the mountains and particularly Jungfrau, claimed TOP OF EUROPE – so how can we not go right even though it was cloudy. So we went up and it was no where near the poster pictures, expected but still feeling unhappy about it. It was super windy and cloudy up there. Moreover, its really hard to breathe up there (literally), I was feeling really bad the moment the train starts ascending, Em was running around and I have no breathe to catch up with her, geesed. And so in the end, we did nothing except walking the Ice Palace and sending home 2 postcards (which I hope will be marked “from Jungfrau”).

We didn’t ski this time coz sking is hard and we did sledging/tobogganing instead. But it was fun and easy! The sledge runs in the Jungfrau region are like the ski runs – long! We took almost 1.5hrs to sledge down from Kl Scheidegg to Grindelwald and about 2hrs Mannlichen to Grindelwald. Em made a snowman with my professional help of course – she was making snowman like making sand castle!!!! I forgot who told me before that the right way is to make a small ball and then roll on fresh snow to make it bigger and bigger!
