Em’s Valentines Dinner

Posted by jaronliu on February 17, 2009

1. Starters – Goose liver slices on toasted bread. Its actually quite scary to read how they produce these kinda food. “To fatten the liver, they have to overfeed the animal! The feed is administered using a funnel fitted with a long tube (20–30 cm long), which forces the feed into the animal’s esophagus”

2. First Course – Gnocchi alla romana with freshly grated parmigiano cheese.

3. Second Course – Onions marinated roast pork.

4. Dessert – Fruit platter.

All these were done at home and served on tupperware but Em says its better if there are candles, nice table, nice plates, music, etc. Em is not easy to handle…

Budapest and river Danube

Posted by jaronliu on February 14, 2009

Unfortunately the days when we were there it was cloudy and rainy! However, the night view remained spectacular! The view from Buda Castle down to the river Danube and across the Széchenyi Chain Bridge to the Pest side is really nice at night. The City of Spas also lived up to its name, the Széchenyi open air spa is pretty nice, warm 38 degs water in winter (Em says its soooo gooood!). Finally, I think Hungarian food is quite suitable for us – hot, spicy, and alot of strong flavours.

Some foreign people are so detestable…

Posted by jaronliu on February 13, 2009

I recently (last year actually) had a slight discussion with Iris, Raj, Alan, etc about the foreign policy (FTs, free citizenships etc) in SG and that our gahmen should start to give take care of its citizens even more. Most, if not all, policies in SG should be polarized towards the citizens I think.

Then today, I saw this shitty post on ST forum (sometimes I wonder why the editor even post it up!!!!) http://www.straitstimes.com/ST%2BForum/Story/STIStory_337639.html

FTs sucks copy

Seriously, this guy needs to wake up his idea. I have a Msian fren who also have relatives in Msia but he wanted to live and work in SG and so he took up citizenship and DID NS. I have another Indian fren who studied in SG on grants and I never ever hear him complaining about having to serve out the bond in SG. This guy, Adrian Gopal, just because he pays GST, CPF, income tax, is not happy and want to complain?!?!?!? WTF… My suggestion? Apply for SG citizenship la, its easy anyway what.

Read all the comments here http://comment.straitstimes.com/showthread.php?t=16878. Not all are flames and some are genuinely true.

This is what happens when we give out PRs and citizenships too freely, some people come just want to take all the benefits and will leave at every opportunity possible. Quite sad actually. We need better screening protocols perhaps.

What mac users could do…

Posted by jaronliu on February 13, 2009

Em got a mac with osX leopard last year and supposedly its the latest, fastest, problemless, and lagless one… I got a pc the same time with specs more or less the same and on xp sp3.

First thing I notice is that installing CS3 is way much slower on the mac – mine is already done while Em’s one not even halfway there. Second thing is that mac has no card reader - I mean wtf, almost everything got card reader these days. Then sometimes I will just try to use Em’s mac just to see how good it supposedly is and its pretty slow actually – the dock took 1-2 secs to load when its on autohide mode while mine is almost instant!!!! And finally autocad is not supported on mac – talk about mac is for those who do design, architecture, blah blah blah…

I dunnoe but either we got a shit set or mac is pretty shitty. This site is pretty cool and especially for all those so called mac evangelist! http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=macs_cant
