I am going to watch French Open Roland Garros Paris 2008! Monday, June 2nd is a holiday in Italy and I was lucky to get tickets for the 4th round (semi-quarter-finals)
The cool thing is, since these players are seeded, I think I will most probably get to see at least 1 of them even if I have access to only 1 of the 2 courts!

I didn’t know that rabbit can be eaten till I came to Italy. While rabbits are considered as pets in Singapore, they are considered as live food stock (like chicken, cow, and pigs) in Italy (and in France/Spain also I think). They also eat horses too.
Anyhow, I had this opportunity to try rabbit meat (supposedly common in Tuscany region) while I was at a conference in Siena. Initially, I did not want to eat but in the end I thought I should at least give it a try. To me, the rabbit meat taste like chicken and by taste alone I could not tell the difference.
Humans are indeed the scariest creature on Earth, eating everything and anything that moves. No wonder some people like PL wants to eat “zai” (vegetarian). Unfortunately, I love my ribeye steak, roasted rack of lamb ribs, and pork chop too much to be a vegetarian! However, I don’t think I will be into rabbit or horse meats.
I took some pictures of how the rabbit meat look like. I also found some scary pictures from http://www.all-creatures.org/ of the rabbit is being killed!

There are definitely some similarities when in living Sg or overseas. However, the one big smilarity I see is this – “food brings people together!”
Its like no matter where you are/go, if there is food, people tend to gather around, chat, laugh, relax, bitch, gossip and enjoy. Like for example, in office/lab/workplace, everyone loves tea breaks and especially if someone brings a cake or some snacks to share. In Italian, they often say “vuoi predere il caffe?” while in Singlish we say “ai lim kopi mai? gia lei?” Its the SAME everywhere in the world!

Among many other things, one of the main differences I notice is this……..
In Sg, when people “ka jiao” you, most of the time we “lao lan” (LL) back. HOWEVER, if “kena ka jiao” while overseas, you also LL, but this time is “lan lan” or in singlish we say squeeze balls lo!!!

Recently, whenever I ask Em what is she cooking for dinner, she will say “something very nice”. However, every time I reach home, I’ll see something black e.g. black porridge, black garlic, black broccoli, black pork chop, and black potatoes. By the way, black is cos the food was “chao ta-ed”
Today again Em told me she made very tasty mushroom soup and I was thinking it should be white cos the soup can never be “chao ta-ed”! But I was wrong, I was treated to Em’s special mushroom taste “hei zhi ma”!

P/S – The above is just a joke!!! Em’s food is nice, really… At least better than what I cook, haha…

Actually, I didn’t know NYC is nicknamed Big Apple till Em told 2 years back! Was looking at some old photos taken in NYC today and so decided to search under wikipedia for Big Apple. Anyhow, the interesting point is, while reading, there are actually other big “fruits” cities out there!
The Big Apricot Metropolis (comics), DC
The Big Peach – Atlanta, GA
The Big Easy – New Orleans, LA
The Little Apple – Manhattan, KS
The Big Orange – Tel Aviv, Israel
The Big Guava – Tampa, FLA
The Big Durian – Jakarta, Indonesia
The Big Scrapple – Philadelphia, PA
The Big Chip – Lewisburg, PA
Its crazy isn’t it? Maybe we should have one for SG too? Like “THE BIG SUGARCANE” or something since everyone in the city is constantly being squeezed dry by our beloved gahmen!
