Will money erase everything?

Posted by jaronliu on April 30, 2008

Today is the day we get our 1st installment of GST offset package (not sure if different people have different dates). The point is, will people forget how our gahmen treat us peasants with their double standards rules after receiving the money?

Gstoffset

Anyhow, I really like the podcast – “The Succession” by mrbrown. It summarizes 40 years of our “gahmen style” into just 3 minutes! I’m having this podcast on my desktop and playing it often to counter memory-erasing money…

LUP at Milan Home

Posted by jaronliu on April 20, 2008

Its cool that my place in Milan is having LUP (lift upgrading). Anyhow, I think LUP was done coz there are quite a lot of old people here and they seriously need a lift.

12042008186

This reminds me of how our beloved gahmenin Sg use LUP as a form of “carrot” in GEs.

But Mr Goh (Gahmen) countered: “That’s what the elections are about. Who’s in charge of resources? The PAP will be in charge of governmental resources and town council resources. Chiam (Opposition) will only be in charge of town council resources if he wins. So, residents have to decide if they want the plans of Sitoh Yih Pin.”

He added: “If for some strange reason, they do not want the plan, then they cannot blame the Government for not giving them the $80 million. Chiam never asked for a budget of $80 million for Potong Pasir. It’s not a matter of carrot. It’s my vision for Potong Pasir. It’s entirely fair. It’s morally principled.”

Anyhow, check out JBJ’s new political party - I think he has some very very relevant questions about the Lee’s administration. Lets just hope he can last till 2010 GE, without getting sued for defamation by the Lees that is.

Italy General Elections

Posted by jaronliu on April 13, 2008

Italy’s general election kicked off Sunday as voters cast their ballots to decide the new national parliament and who will govern their country for the next five years.

You know Italians are really spoilt for choice – they have 32 candidates running for prime minister!!! Its really not easy for them to choose!!!

So I guess we Singaporeans are really blessed because we don’t have to spend so much time thinking/struggling on who to choose since we only have 6 parties in GE 2006 to choose from. Or for some GRCs (so called walkover zones), we don’t even have to choose – polling day is just another holiday for us!

Check the below videos I got from an Italian blog!

So, we’ve been without a government for a while… normal for around these parts. Elections this weekend. While those of you in the States ponder over the “phone call in the night” ad… the two main candidates for prime minister here have “anthems”.

The first one is for Berlusconi. The chorus is “Thank goodness there’s Silvio.” Say no more. It’s even karaoke style so you can sign along.

The second one is for Walter Veltroni, current Rome mayor. Apparently he has an affinity for the Village People. Not to mention that his slogan is a total rip-off of Barack Obama (Yes we can).

Would you vote for either of these guys based on these ads? God help us.

Weekend getaway at Prague

Posted by jaronliu on April 11, 2008

The city is pretty cool with the castle grounds on 1 side and the old town on the other side. Things are also a little cheaper than Europe or in Italy at least – 1 meal (with rice/meat and beer) at restaurant cost about 7 to 10 euros (which can only get you a plate of pasta in Italy!)

Singapore laws and policies make good April’s fool jokes?

Posted by jaronliu on April 1, 2008

My Italian labmates were amused by Singapore law and policies that I told them today.

1. 5 or more illegal gathering rule and opposition protesters can be arrested

Response: *laughter*You guys have been brainwashed by your gahmen to make you believe that you live in a democratic country.

2. Politics in Singapore is Democracy

Response: *laughter* *laughter* This is what you believed, not us, not western democracy. You guys are like China, pseudo-democracy (I think they meant Authoritarianism)!

3.Singapore gahmen believes in the policy of placing Opposition-held wards at the end of the lift-upgrading queue

Response: *laughter* This is oppression and repression and you guys actually give in to it?

4. Three Quarter Tank Rule

Response: *laughter* *laughter* *LAUGHTER* How crazy is that? In Italy, its opposite, petrol prices near the Swiss borders are made lower so that people do not go across to fill up!

5. Caning in Singapore

Response:  *jaw-dropped* *GREAT laughter* You guys still live in medieval times? Where is your human and civil rights? (Actually I thought caning was normal everywhere, yes I am ignorant, till my labmates told me there are no physical punishment in western countries except some parts of USA with capital punishment) *continued laughter*

Incidentally, mrbrown posted some *fake* good news about Singapore laws and policies which was really funny to me. So the real news are funny to foreigners while fake news are funny to Sgers!

PAP dragon prince

My favourite symbol on our gahmen (from talkingcock.com). The dragon totally reminds me of ancient dynasty systems in TVB drama shows.
