Monte Carlo, Monaco

Posted by jaronliu on March 31, 2008

Monte Carlo is known for its casinos, gambling, glamour, and for sightings of famous people. Anyhow, I think Monte Carlo’s exclusivity is a little overhyped, you don’t really have to ”dress up” to feel “normal” or to enter the casino.

Nice the City

Posted by jaronliu on March 30, 2008

Nice city is a major tourist centre and a leading resort on the French Riviera (Côte d’Azur). Before I went, I thought Nice is like a small touristic village but actually Nice is pretty big, modernised, and commercialized! Anyhow, Em was so “tu 2“, she was super excited to see KFC there (something not found in Italy) and insisted on having KFC for lunch instead of trying French food!

The French Riviera – Côte d’Azur

Posted by jaronliu on March 30, 2008

Côte d’Azur is literally translated to blue coast I think. The coast extends along the Mediterranean Sea west from Menton near the Italian border. Anyhow, the water there is REALLY very blue and nice!!! We stayed at one of the most popular city along the coast, Nice.

Last Minute Goals

Posted by jaronliu on March 16, 2008

This was history, Milan lost 0-2 to Arsenal at San Siro home ground!

Em said

“The atmosphere was great and Italians are really crazy over soccer. I overheard some British saying that they better stay together or else the Italians will throw them out of the stadium. Obviously, they were outnumbered. Initially Milan keep attacking towards the first half. However in the end, Arsenal scored the 2 goals towards the final 6 minutes!”

Anyhow, the take away point is about last minute goals. Most punters would think that last minute goals are “fixed match”. However, sometimes last minute goals could be due to the decreasing morale of the losing team. Its like in the case of Milan, when they conceded the first goal, you could actually see the “lost of energy/morale” of the players. Also, the entire stadium was like freaking quiet, no cheers, no shoutings, no nothing at all! Then, towards the last 5 minutes, people start leaving the stadium (to avoid crowds) and that made the players lose even more morale. It was no wonder why Arsenal could score a second goal.

For all videos and American drama series lovers, check graboid.com. It has over 70,000 videos (latest not old) and IMO, its the fastest streaming video software ever! Too bad they only give 4GB worth of bandwidth each month.

Pasam Malam along our street

Posted by jaronliu on March 6, 2008

On Sunday there seems to be some sort of pasam malam (Italians call it “mercato“) along our street and Em was excited about it. Anyhow, the take-away point is Em bought a piece of “deep-fry flour” with sugar coating for 2 euros (4 sgd)!!! Can buy 4 pieces of chicken wings or 4 boxes of muah chee at Sg pasam malam lo!

Finally a shopping mall like in Sg

Posted by jaronliu on March 4, 2008

We went to Carrefour this weekend to do groceries shopping! The cool thing about this place is that its kinda like malls in Sg e.g. Suntech and Vivo with food outlets and fashion outlets all under 1 roof. And so this gives us the “home” feeling.

Unfortunately, you don’t see such malls in city and we had to go outside of Milan (Carugate) where they are situated along the highway!
