Actually, I didn’t know NYC is nicknamed Big Apple till Em told 2 years back! Was looking at some old photos taken in NYC today and so decided to search under wikipedia for Big Apple. Anyhow, the interesting point is, while reading, there are actually other big “fruits” cities out there!
Its crazy isn’t it? Maybe we should have one for SG too? Like “THE BIG SUGARCANE” or something since everyone in the city is constantly being squeezed dry by our beloved gahmen!
Today is the day we get our 1st installment of GST offset package (not sure if different people have different dates). The point is, will people forget how our gahmen treat us peasants with their double standards rules after receiving the money?
Anyhow, I really like the podcast - “The Succession” by mrbrown. It summarizes 40 years of our “gahmen style” into just 3 minutes! I’m having this podcast on my desktop and playing it often to counter memory-erasing money…
Its cool that my place in Milan is having LUP (lift upgrading). Anyhow, I think LUP was done coz there are quite a lot of old people here and they seriously need a lift.
But Mr Goh (Gahmen) countered: “That’s what the elections are about. Who’s in charge of resources? The PAP will be in charge of governmental resources and town council resources. Chiam (Opposition) will only be in charge of town council resources if he wins. So, residents have to decide if they want the plans of Sitoh Yih Pin.”
He added: “If for some strange reason, they do not want the plan, then they cannot blame the Government for not giving them the $80 million. Chiam never asked for a budget of $80 million for Potong Pasir. It’s not a matter of carrot. It’s my vision for Potong Pasir. It’s entirely fair. It’s morally principled.”
Anyhow, check out JBJ’s new political party - I think he has some very very relevant questions about the Lee’s administration. Lets just hope he can last till 2010 GE, without getting sued for defamation by the Lees that is.
You know Italians are really spoilt for choice - they have 32 candidates running for prime minister!!! Its really not easy for them to choose!!!
So I guess we Singaporeans are really blessed because we don’t have to spend so much time thinking/struggling on who to choose since we only have 6 parties in GE 2006 to choose from. Or for some GRCs (so called walkover zones), we don’t even have to choose - polling day is just another holiday for us!
Check the below videos I got from an Italian blog!
So, we’ve been without a government for a while… normal for around these parts. Elections this weekend. While those of you in the States ponder over the “phone call in the night” ad… the two main candidates for prime minister here have “anthems”.
The first one is for Berlusconi. The chorus is “Thank goodness there’s Silvio.” Say no more. It’s even karaoke style so you can sign along.
The second one is for Walter Veltroni, current Rome mayor. Apparently he has an affinity for the Village People. Not to mention that his slogan is a total rip-off of Barack Obama (Yes we can).
Would you vote for either of these guys based on these ads? God help us.
The city is pretty cool with the castle grounds on 1 side and the old town on the other side. Things are also a little cheaper than Europe or in Italy at least - 1 meal (with rice/meat and beer) at restaurant cost about 7 to 10 euros (which can only get you a plate of pasta in Italy!)
